Watermark congratulates Soap Aid Pty Ltd, a finalist in the 2017 Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Awards (Community Category). The winner will be announced on 26 October 2017.
The Sustainability Award recognises business, Government, institutions, communities and individuals taking an innovative approach to sustainability.
The SOAP AID social enterprise collects discarded soap from hotels and guest facilities (diverting the soap from ending up in landfill), re processes the soap to make new 100g bars of soap and distributes to remote Australia and countries such as India and Cambodia as part of a program to improve hygiene and prevent hygiene-linked diseases. The recycling of the soap is environmentally sustainable and innovative and its distribution to communities has social and health impacts.
Soap Aid was the brainchild of Michael Matulick of Hunter Amenities (formerly CEO of Concept Amenities), a Watermark client. Watermark also provides pro bono IP support to the social enterprise. Further information on the SOAP AID social enterprise can be found at Soap Aid Pty Ltd.
