A Missileer, musical theatre buff and litigation enthusiast: meet Ward Olivete.

“As a lawyer in the USA, I’ve worn many hats to meet my clients’ commercial objectives including drafting various contracts and licensing agreements, prosecuting IP applications, asserting IP rights and providing advice in regard to competitive intelligence and strategies. And whilst I enjoy such endeavours, I’m downright enthusiastic to roll up my sleeves and become an impassioned advocate should a matter turn contentious.”

I AM: Motivated, disciplined and mission-focused

Title: US Lawyer and Registered Patent Attorney, USPTO.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Science, Master of Business Administration, Juris Doctor, Master of Laws.

Patent litigation appeals to my need to continuously learn and explore. Often, each case involves drastically different technologies and I enjoy delving into the details of various inventions and disciplines.

The practice of trade marks and other IP gives me a sense of fostering a more capable and more efficient legal and commercial system that benefits both my clients and the greater good.

After completing my engineering degree, I served in the US military as a Flight Commander for a ballistic missile squadron. From there, I earned my law degree from Boston College Law School and subsequently worked in New York City. My practice focused mainly on trade mark transactional work and patent and commercial litigation.

Having moved to Australia in 2009, I earned a Master of Laws degree from the University of Melbourne and joined Watermark Intellectual Property Lawyers in 2011.

* Ward is currently undertaking studies which will enable him to practise as a registered lawyer in Australia.
