Innovation in engineering; David Perkins is at the heart of the action.

ā€œI’d always been amazed by the everyday engineering that keeps our society turning – bridges, roads, sanitation, telephone networks, and so on. As I was completing university studies in science and engineering, I was looking for a career that would allow me to keep learning new things. Luckily, I found a niche where I have coal-face access to breaking innovations great and small. It is always inspiring to see new solutions to problems, and to play some small part in their success.ā€

I AM: Here to help

Title: Patent & Trade Marks Attorney

Qualifications: Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

During my tertiary career I was able to explore a wide scope of technologies, from applied physics to electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering and computer systems engineering. I then specialised in biomedical engineering for my honours, researching efficient techniques for using chaos theory and fractal mathematics to accurately predict the imminent onset of cardiac arrhythmia using souped up pacemaker devices. But after the challenge and stimulation of university I was at a loss. I worked in mathematical software and power engineering for a time, then, thankfully, I found the patent profession. Now I can keep learning about all kinds of diverse arts without ever having to confine myself to any one field.

I enjoy working closely with local engineering companies, helping them to secure protection for engineered components in Australia and in overseas export and manufacturing markets. Although my technical background and expertise primarily relate to computing and communications, I also deal with a diverse range of technologies that embrace basic mechanical and mechatronic subject matter. It’s exciting coming in at the early design stage, as new products are being constructed, tested and released.
