“My major concern in biomedical science is in getting medical discovery from the client to the patient. You need good IP in place before a pharmaceutical company will even look at a new drug. Being a part of that process by making sure my clients’ IP portfolio is robust, relevant and strategic makes me feel good about my work.” I AM: Determined Title: Patent and Trade Marks Attorney Qualifications: Bachelor of Science (Honours), Ph.D, Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law I have over fifteen years experience in medical research before I joined Watermark and qualified as a patent and trade marks attorney. My PhD focussed on the area of neuroscience, involving molecular biology, protein chemistry and tissue culture techniques. I have held two Post-Doctoral positions in medical research facilities, particularly research related to early neuronal axon guidance ,cell adhesion molecules, animal models of nerve injury and regeneration, and ischemia reperfusion injury. I have published in a number of internationally reviewed journals. Now, as an attorney, my insight into the world of medical research helps me to liaise with the scientific community particularly in the areas of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, with a strong understanding of the unique structure of research organisations and the administrative issues, and commercial considerations my clients face.
