The highly competitive program, now in its 10th year, has seen 16 innovative projects progress through to the first round of judging to become semi-finalists. Nine of these projects are in the Mitsubishi Corporation Emerging Innovation category, and seven are in the Mitsubishi Corporation Growth category. The Mitsubishi Corporation WA Innovator of the Year Overall Winner, and Emerging Innovation and Growth category winners, will be announced on 2 November 2016.

Beside the opportunity to obtain a cash prize as a category or overall winner, the finalists receive free media training, pitch presentation training and a video showcasing their innovative project, people and business.
The Mitsubishi Corporation WA Innovator of the Year is delivered by the State Government of Western Australia through the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, and Mitsubishi Corporation has, for several years, been the principal sponsor of the program.
